MacWorld Expo Opening Day

The MacWorld Expo opened just after Steve Jobs’ keynote. The expo is spreaded by two halls: Moscone South (where these pictures were taken and where the Apple booth is as well) and Moscone West. It feels that that is the largest MacWorld ever…

Apple Keynote, What to Take Away?

The Macbook Air and Apple’s entry in the movie rental business where the big items of that keynote. The thin laptop is great, but I think that the movie rental is a much bigger deal for Apple, in the lengthy term.

Apple stepped in (yet) another business, and while everyone talks about convergence, they actually cash-in by fixing ‘>Apple TV – at least, that is what seems (we have not tested it yet). Being able to rent a movie without the wait date caused by mailing the disc is certainly robust -the Vudu box proved it- and whether there’s something that customers would pay for, it’s convenience.

As more than ever, electronics is driven by consumers and the creation of added-value will shift from the back-end (hardware) to the front-end (user-interface/software). Some companies can’t write software or build hardware to save their lives, so mastering both aspects will supply Apple with an edge that competitors will have a hard moment to match.

Sony eBook Firmware Update Due Next Month?

Take it with a grain of salt, but a forum user from MobileReader reports that the Sony PRS-505 eBook will get a firmware update next month. Here is what he wrote:

“that may not be news anymore, but I confirmed with the SONY Reader product manager at CES that there will be a new firmware for the 505 which will include the ability to properly resize PDFs inside the reader [thus, without using rasterfarian]. I actually saw that PDF functionality and it works much better than on our 500’s!” (link)
